Ramkhummhaeng is regarded as one of the most hectic zones in Bangkok. The area is dominated by Ramkhumhaeng University which leads to the dwelling of thousands of their undergraduates as well as hundreds of street vendors within this congested district. The traffic in the area is so chaotic all day long and suffocates the environment with all sorts of pollutions. Yet, places for residents to unwind or chill out are so limited. The shortage of such activities brings about the inspiration of this project which is to provide such a place with refreshing atmosphere for people to get together, to dine or just to stroll and to be able to breathe some clean air. The building façade was treated to have blowing fabric effect which turned the architecture to be unique and outstanding in appearance when compared to existing surroundings. The project had a goal to set a brand for the place to be a talk of the town and a venue in mind for Ramkhumhaeng Community. The concept in energy saving and generating cool air for common space was to create ecological atmosphere with shady landscaping rather than air conditioning solution. This project would proof that there is no need for low rise buildings to always depend on mechanical system. Even for a country with tropical climate like Thailand, pleasant environment can successfully be achieved through open space with lots of big trees. Reinforced concrete was chosen for main structure. The treatment of the façade for blowing cloth effect was achieved by fiber cement fabrication. The plot of the site is long and parallel to a secondary street with narrow frontage to the main road. The architect proposed a master plan and building orientation with caution and compliance with building regulations. The project therefore presented optimum space planning. The architect also attempted to submit a re-façade treatment of adjacent buildings as to achieve a wider and more welcoming entrance. The challenge of this project design was in an effort in branding the mall with exceptional and different architecture to other shopping malls in the neighbourhood.
